DERRY — The award-winning Rhythm of New Hampshire Show Chorus will host a Summer SINGsation workshop on Thursdays beginning July 12 and running through Aug. 2 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at 39 West Broadway. The chorus is a charter member of Sweet Adelines International, a barbershop harmony organization for women. No vocal experience is required to attend this series of summer workshops. All voice parts are welcome, but we would love to have lower voiced women or female vocal percussionists! "If you think about singing, like to sing in the shower or want to learn a new musical technique, this workshop is for you," musical director Jessie Caynon said. "Any woman of average singing ability will find a part that fits her voice range. We're planning some fun activities in this summer program and looking forward to ending the event by singing at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball game on Aug. 4. It will be fun and exciting sessions and we invite women of all ages and backgrounds to come and give us a try." But, says RNH Show Chorus team leader Andrea Younie, the group is not your grandmother's Sweet Adelines. "RNH sings a repertoire of blues, jazz, Broadway and contemporary tunes," Bishop said. "This season alone, we're working on 'Can't Stop the Feeling,' made popular by Justin Timberlake, Adele's hit, 'Rolling in the deep and 'Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing, from the iconic Stevie Wonder." Women’s a cappella group takes third place Regional Competition in Springfield, MA. Derry, NH – Members of the Rhythm of New Hampshire Show Chorus (RNH) had a solid showing at the Region One Sweet Adelines International (SAI) Competition at Symphony Hall in Springfield, MA on Saturday, April 14, 2018, placing third in the Division A, small chorus category. The a cappella women’s barbershop chorus performed two songs for the four-member international judge’s panel; a ballad entitled At Last with words by Mack Gordon and Music by Harry Warren and arranged by Nancy Bergman and The moment I Saw Your Eyes, an up tune by Joe Liles. The group placed third in Division A (small chorus-under 31 members). Sweet Adelines choruses from across the globe range in size from 15-31 (Division A) to well over 120 members (Large Chorus) and perform their competition packages in English. “We brought eight new members to the contest stage with us this year, equaling a third of the overall group’s size,” says Jessie Caynon, director of RNH Show Chorus. “These new women brought with them a high level of energy and enthusiasm that is infectious. After our recent performance on WGBH’s a cappella competition, Sing That Thing, which is airing now on Friday night’s at 8 p.m., we felt like the sky was the limit with larger, more energized chorus, Caynon continues. “We are learning new skills and finding exciting ways to share our love of a cappella harmonies with our audiences in a unique and authentic way.” Photo caption: Members of Rhythm of New Hampshire Show Chorus pose outside Symphony Hall in Springfield, MA on Saturday, April 14, 2018 after performing their contest package. This group of ladies is beyond our wildest expectations and this is only the beginning with where we can take our music and our audiences on this journey,” continues Younie. RNH welcomes new members as young as 14 years of age every Thursday evening from 6:45 to 9 p.m. at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 38 West Broadway, Derry. The chorus is especially interested in auditioning women with low and mid-range voice skills, including those who have sung bass or baritone/alto in previous groups. Exciting things are happening at RNH.
